Maestoso was founded in 2013

Lara Dietrich founded Maestoso Music Studio in 2013 as a place for music teachers in St. Louis Park and surrounding Minnesota suburbs to connect with local students. The instructors at Maestoso offer instruction to students of all ages. Maestoso features individual studios, as well as a large ensemble room for rehearsals, classes and recitals.

Music is in Lara Dietrich’s DNA. She is the daughter of two Horn players, great grand daughter of pianist and composer Virginia Hoff who founded the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in 1944. Lara’s love of music started early; before the age of 4, when she began piano lessons. Lara’s mother, Valentine, was the local school Band Director at Lara’s school, so she had access to all the band instruments from a young age. Clarinet was her first attempt at a wind instrument, followed by French Horn, and then finally the best one ever - Trombone! Lara believes that the Trombone chose her to play it when she began band in 5th grade. It was always easy and fun to play. She loved concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, and youth orchestra.

Lara came to the Twin Cities from Kenosha, Wisconsin to attend the University of Minnesota. She and her husband, Erik, fell in love with Minneapolis and decided to stay in the area after finishing school. Lara has a degree in Music Education and decided that after a few years teaching K-8 general music and 5th grade band her favorite way to engage with students was in a one-on-one setting.

Lara’s students have played in the Minnesota All State Bands and Orchestras, GTCYS, Minnesota Junior Winds, and many regional honor bands. As a member of MMTA (Minnesota Music Teachers Association) her students have participated in Piano Contest, Theory Exams, and the Music Bridges program. Her favorite part of all these experiences is seeing students accept challenges and rise to meet them!

Our three kids have taken lessons at Maestoso for the past 7 years. We love the instructors’ flexibility and positive influence with each child’s learning style. We would highly recommend Maestoso to anyone looking to get their child playing an instrument!
